Tender description
***** THIS IS AN AWARD NOTICE, NOT A CALL FOR COMPETITION ***** This procurement is being concluded following a mini competition under the GCA RM6126 Research & Insights DPS Brief Description of Requirement The use of robots is expanding rapidly in the UK, across different industries. Robots are well-established in the manufacturing sector, and increasingly used in the nuclear industry, marine industry, agriculture, health and social care and logistics. Robots are widely discussed as a target of familiar cyber attacks. Sensitive information, including personal data and proprietary information, can be targeted by cyber criminals. Like other connected devices, robots may have vulnerabilities that can be exploited by hackers. These vulnerabilities can also lead to downtimes, or unauthorised access and control. The objective is to inform any cyber security policy measures needed to safeguard the use of robots in the UK. The findings will be used by the DSIT Cyber Security and Digital Identity Directorate and Digital Infrastructure Directorate, which lead on relevant policy.

About the buyer
The Department for Science Innovation and Technology is a central government department, and a dedicated commercial directorate leads on its procurement work alongside project and delivery teams. Larger opportunities are advertised as notices on the Find a Tender Service. Common goods and services are bought through Crown Commercial Service frameworks. UK Shared Business Services, a shared-services provider, manages many of the department's lower-value procurements on its behalf. Low-value orders require multiple supplier quotes to ensure value for money. Supplier diversity targets guide how contracts reach small and medium-sized enterprises across the supply chain.
Procurement spend from central entities makes up 66% of overall UK public spend.
Over the past 5 years, most of the Department for Science Innovation and Technology's contract awards have been in IT services, research and development and software and information systems.
