About the buyer

The National Archives is a non-ministerial government department that manages its own tenders and contracts. Tenders and contracts are published on Contracts Finder, the government's central platform for opportunities. Larger tender documents and the resulting awarded contracts are published online in full under central government transparency rules. A licensing team runs a separate tender route for suppliers wanting to digitise, transcribe or publish its historical records. Licensing opportunities are advertised on the archive's own website as well as on Contracts Finder. Successful licensees cover their own project costs and pay royalties back to the archive.

Procurement spend from central entities makes up 66% of overall UK public spend.

Over the past 5 years, most of The National Archives's contract awards have been in business services, software and information systems and IT services.
