About the buyer
West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust serves over 600,000 people across west Hertfordshire, and buys as an NHS trust with its own procurement function. Care runs across four hospital sites, including Watford General and St Albans City. Quality, price and value for money determine the winning supplier on every contract, under the Trust's published procurement principles. Suppliers and staff alike must comply with the Bribery Act 2010 in every purchasing decision. Hemel Hempstead Hospital adds diagnostics and rehabilitation capacity alongside the therapy unit's physiotherapy services.
UK health spending has nearly quadrupled to £241.8bn in 2024/25, £20bn up on the year before. £140.6bn of that went to procurement, the biggest sector of UK public spending and the fastest-growing.
Over the past 5 years, most of West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust's contract awards have been in construction work, architectural and engineering services and IT services.
