About the buyer

West Sussex County Council buys as a local authority, with a Procurement and Contract Services team based at County Hall in Chichester. Suppliers register on Atamis, the council's e-sourcing portal, to view and respond to tender opportunities. Larger contracts are also advertised through the Find a Tender Service and Contracts Finder. Suppliers can filter Contracts Finder by CPV code for relevant alerts. Beyond its own tenders, the council draws on consortia including the Central Buying Consortium, the Crown Commercial Service and the Eastern Shires Purchasing Organisation. Each school's governing body controls its own purchasing budget, supported by the council's procurement team.

UK local government drives £140bn in annual procurement, led by social protection (£66.6bn) and education (£57.1bn).

Over the past 5 years, most of West Sussex County Council's contract awards have been in transport services, IT services and business services.
