About the buyer
Sheffield City Council is a local authority for the city of Sheffield, and runs its own procurement function for contracts across the organisation. Tender opportunities are advertised on YORtender, the council's e-tendering portal shared with local authorities across the Yorkshire and Humber region. Contracts above threshold also appear on Find a Tender, with lower-value opportunities listed on Contracts Finder. Framework agreements let the council call off from appointed suppliers without a fresh advertisement. An evaluation panel scores each bid, and the highest-scoring supplier wins the contract. Contract details are then published in the Contract Register within YORtender.
UK local government drives £140bn in annual procurement, led by social protection (£66.6bn) and education (£57.1bn).
Over the past 5 years, most of Sheffield City Council's contract awards have been in business services, construction work and IT services.
