Tender description
This contract is for grass cutting within the stirling area of the verges alongside the public roads predominantly in the rural areas — it will however, also include some grass cutting within an urban context but still within the boundaries of the Stirling Council area. In addition, this contract will contract also include hedge cutting (both roadside hedges and amenity hedges), roadside vegetation cutting, and vegetation cutting in meadow cutting (i.e. wild-flower areas), and vegetation cutting in daffodil-bulb growing areas. The contract will involve an element of ‘scavenging’ (i.e. litter picking) required in support of the cutting activities within this contract. About the buyer
Stirling Council is a local authority covering the Stirling area, and buys through its Strategic Commissioning team. Every opportunity is advertised on Public Contracts Scotland, the national portal for Scottish public procurement. No approved or select supplier list operates here, so any registered company can apply once a notice appears. Contract value decides whether a formal tender or a request for quotation applies. Procurement can run as an open competition or a restricted one requiring pre-qualification. Stirling Council reports its annual procurement performance under the Procurement Reform (Scotland) Act 2014.
UK local government drives £140bn in annual procurement, led by social protection (£66.6bn) and education (£57.1bn).
Over the past 5 years, most of Stirling Council's contract awards have been in construction work, architectural and engineering services and health and social work.
