About the buyer

Plymouth City Council buys as a local authority, running its own Procurement Service for construction, facilities management, professional services, and environment and transport contracts. A separate Strategic Co-operative Commissioning Team handles social care and healthcare contracts instead. Smaller opportunities are advertised through the Supplying the South West procurement portal, while larger contracts move to the Central Digital Platform. A rolling Capital Procurement Pipeline gives suppliers advance notice of upcoming construction and infrastructure work. Local businesses can also register on Find It in Plymouth, a platform connecting the council with suppliers in the city.

UK local government drives £140bn in annual procurement, led by social protection (£66.6bn) and education (£57.1bn).

Over the past 5 years, most of Plymouth City Council's contract awards have been in IT services, construction work and architectural and engineering services.
