About the buyer
Met Office buys as a central government agency, delivering weather and climate services as an executive agency and trading fund of the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology. Tenders run through the Met Office's own ProActis portal, with opportunities and awards also published on Contracts Finder and Find a Tender. The commercial team runs this process, following Cabinet Office best practice.
Procurement spend from central entities makes up 66% of overall UK public spend.
Over the past 5 years, most of Met Office's contract awards have been in software and information systems, research and development and IT services.
