About the buyer

Newcastle City Council is the local authority for the city of Newcastle, and runs commissioning and procurement as a single service serving the whole council. Suppliers bidding for its contracts register free on the Open e-tendering platform. Competitive opportunities above the council's threshold are published on Open alongside those of the North East local authorities. Notices are also published on Find a Tender and Contracts Finder. A public register of the council's contracts sits on the North East Procurement Organisation portal. The NEPO Supplier Partnership Programme offers free bid-writing training to local organisations.

UK local government drives £140bn in annual procurement, led by social protection (£66.6bn) and education (£57.1bn).

Over the past 5 years, most of Newcastle City Council's contract awards have been in construction work, IT services and health and social work.
