607 West Horndon Station Footbridge FSS2/59 Renewal

Tender description

West Horndon station is located at 19m 330yds on the FSS2 Fenchurch Street to Shoeburyness line. The station has two single face platforms, with the railway running in a west to east direction. Platform 1 and the up line are located to the south and platform 2 and the down line to the north. Both running lines are subject to overhead 25kV AC electrification. The main station buildings and station car park are located to the north of platform 2. A Network Rail access point is located at the east end of the car park, beyond which is a short access road leading to a Road Rail Access Point (RRAP), just beyond the high mileage end of the station. The existing station footbridge is a prefabricated reinforced concrete panel structure dating from the early 1960s, of the same design found elsewhere on the line. The design is noted elsewhere as ‘Exmouth Type A’ structural arrangement. The footbridge has undergone historical remedial works which include, steel plating across prefabricated panel joints where panels are assumed to have historically prised apart, the stairs across the structure appear to have been replaced with a timber alternative and a number of patch concrete repairs are observed across the structure. c2c inspections and condition data have determined the structure is reaching the end of its serviceable life. c2c are resultingly looking to run a procurement process to enter into a Design & Build contract for installation of new covered Beacon footbridge with lifts to replace the existing life expired concrete structure at West Horndon.
