Tender description
We are seeking to provide a service that will offer suitable and safe temporary accommodation within the Wakefield District to single people without the need for an assessment to access it. A basic referral will be given to the accommodation provider, and the provider will need to let the Council know if they can provide accommodation within 15 minutes of receiving the referral. It is expected that 95% of referrals will be accepted into the service. The accommodation will deliver: • Around 11 units of single person accommodation – there may be a need to provide some flexibility around the number of beds provided at any one time. • A support package to those accommodated • Referrals for those accommodated into specialist services. The provider should have strong partnership working arrangements with agencies providing services and support for vulnerable groups. • Work alongside Council staff to assist service users moving on from the contracted accommodation into further mainstream accommodation

About the buyer
Wakefield Council is a local authority procuring goods, works and services for the district through its own commercial team. Contract opportunities are advertised through YORtender, the council's own procurement portal, free to join. Since February 2025, most procurements have run under the Procurement Act 2023, aimed at opening contracts to more suppliers. Suppliers register once on the central Find a Tender platform to bid for opportunities. Framework agreements and dynamic purchasing systems cover many of its call-off contracts, alongside direct quotations for lower-value work. A published commercial pipeline sets out anticipated procurement activity over the next 18 months.
UK local government drives £140bn in annual procurement, led by social protection (£66.6bn) and education (£57.1bn).
Over the past 5 years, most of Wakefield Council's contract awards have been in construction work, repair and maintenance and transport equipment.
