About the buyer
London Borough of Redbridge is a local authority that buys through its own Strategic Procurement Team. Contracts are advertised on the council's own website, Contracts Finder and the Find a Tender Service. Most general supplies are bought through pre-tendered framework agreements rather than one-off purchases. Crown Commercial Service, the Central Buying Consortium and the London Contracts and Supplies Group provide shared purchasing routes. The Strategic Procurement Team also coordinates bulk buying for local schools. Suppliers respond through open or restricted tendering and are judged on quality and value rather than price alone.
UK local government drives £140bn in annual procurement, led by social protection (£66.6bn) and education (£57.1bn).
Over the past 5 years, most of London Borough of Redbridge's contract awards have been in business services, architectural and engineering services and IT services.
