About the buyer
Exeter City Council is the local authority for the city of Exeter, and its Procurement and Contract Procedures set the thresholds for going to tender. Smaller contracts are advertised on Contracts Finder, the national portal for public sector opportunities. Larger tenders appear on the Advantage South West procurement portal, a shared route used by councils across the region. Suppliers can register there for free and receive alerts for categories they work in. Exeter City Living, the council's wholly owned housing company, delivers some contracts on its behalf. A public contracts register lists awards for transparency.
UK local government drives £140bn in annual procurement, led by social protection (£66.6bn) and education (£57.1bn).
Over the past 5 years, most of Exeter City Council's contract awards have been in health and social work, construction work and architectural and engineering services.
