About the buyer
North Lanarkshire Council is a local authority, and procures through a centre-led action network that combines devolved and corporate buying. Suppliers register on Public Contracts Scotland, the national portal for Scottish public sector tenders. The national e-tendering system PCS-Tender sends automated notifications for open opportunities. A Corporate Procurement Team lets corporate contracts and builds joint frameworks with Scotland Excel and Procurement Scotland. Procuring Service Areas across council services let their own local contracts within a corporate framework. A Dynamic Purchasing System arranges transport for pupils with additional support needs.
UK local government drives £140bn in annual procurement, led by social protection (£66.6bn) and education (£57.1bn).
Over the past 5 years, most of North Lanarkshire Council's contract awards have been in construction work, architectural and engineering services and health and social work.
