About the buyer
Scottish Borders Council is the local authority for the Scottish Borders and advertises its tenders on Public Contracts Scotland, Scotland's shared tendering portal. Individual council services handle smaller purchases directly, contacting suppliers who fit their needs. Larger contracts go through the council's Procurement Service, running full tenders via Public Contracts Scotland-Tender. Suppliers register on Public Contracts Scotland to receive notifications for opportunities in their sector. A public contract register shows the council's current contracts and their expiry dates. Existing council or national contracts are used first, before new tenders go to market.
UK local government drives £140bn in annual procurement, led by social protection (£66.6bn) and education (£57.1bn).
Over the past 5 years, most of Scottish Borders Council's contract awards have been in transport equipment, architectural and engineering services and construction materials.
