Tender description

The NHS Cervical Screening Programme (NHSCSP) requires Cervical Sample Taker Initial Training trainees to submit a portfolio of evidence of their practical learning over a 9-12 month period. We are currently using a 40 page paper portfolio for our 600-800 trainees per year to complete, which are reliant on the postal system to move from training centre to trainee and back again. This costs a significant amount of time and money for both the Training Centre (and therefore the Trust) and the trainees. We are looking to set up a digital ePortfolio platform to allow trainees to submit their work to us electronically, while still maintaining the necessary standards and requirements in line with the National Guidance we are beholden to. This will provide a better service for our trainees by making their coursework easier to submit, and easier for us to provide active feedback prior and post submission. North of England Pathology and Screening Education Centre (NEPSEC) needs to keep up with other education institutions to maintain our business relevance & competitiveness. Our Health Education England (HEE) commissioners have also requested this be implemented as a matter of urgency. With the increase in AI availability for the trainees, we also need to utilise the Artificial Intelligence functionality of a digital platform to help prevent plagiarism and make our marking process more streamlined and robust. 3 Year contract term Subject to NHS Terms and Conditions (see appendix)

About the buyer

Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is an NHS trust serving Sheffield, South Yorkshire and beyond, with over 18,500 staff. The Trust's Procurement Department also manages procurement and logistics for Sheffield Children's NHS Foundation Trust. Most contracts are placed through national NHS procurement frameworks. Regional buying power is pooled through the South Yorkshire Integrated Care System Procurement Collaborative. The Trust is also a member of the Shelford Group of NHS teaching hospitals.

UK health spending has nearly quadrupled to £241.8bn in 2024/25, £20bn up on the year before. £140.6bn of that went to procurement, the biggest sector of UK public spending and the fastest-growing.

Over the past 5 years, most of Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust's contract awards have been in repair and maintenance, health and social work, and medical equipment and pharmaceuticals.
