Tender description
Mansfield District Council are seeking to appoint a single supplier to act as an Employer’s Agent (EA) and Project Manager to lead and coordinate the refurbishment of the Mansfield & District Crematorium including the installation of 2 new electric cremators. Works are to scheduled to start in Summer 2025 and conclude mid-2027. Mansfield & District Crematorium requires refurbishment as the current facility is now outdated in terms of spatial organisation, accessibility, internal environment and aesthetic presentation. Furthermore, the mechanical and electrical systems are end-of-life and the cremators themselves no longer meet expected standards for operational efficiency or environmental performance, especially due to the lack of mercury abatement equipment. In response to these challenges, Mansfield District Council (the Council) has committed to a full refurbishment of the facility. The selected pathway for design is based on Option C from the Refurbishment Feasibility Study (incl. in tender pack), which entails a full reconfiguration of the crematorium’s internal layout, sensitive but substantial extension of its footprint (up to 25%), recladding of external elevations to enhance energy performance and visual appearance and installation of two new electric cremators. This procuement is being understaken by Nottinghamshire County Council on behalf of Mansfield District Council. Keywords: Employer's Agent, Project Management, Crematorium, Cremator

About the buyer
Nottinghamshire County Council is a local authority whose procurement runs through a single, award-winning centralised team. Suppliers register on EastMidsTenders, the council's online tendering portal, to search for and submit tenders. Contracts above a published threshold are advertised there. The procurement team is organised into categories that mirror the council's own service areas, spanning adult social care, children's and cultural services, the chief executive's office and place-based services. A procurement pipeline lists contracts due for re-tender and new projects over the next two years, and is refreshed annually.
UK local government drives £140bn in annual procurement, led by social protection (£66.6bn) and education (£57.1bn).
Over the past 5 years, most of Nottinghamshire County Council's contract awards have been in health and social work, transport equipment and architectural and engineering services.
