About the buyer
Local Government Association is the national membership body for councils in England and Wales, and buys as a local government organisation independent of its member councils. Contracts and tenders are published on its own website for transparency and accountability. Procurement is moving onto the Delta eSourcing portal for tender opportunities. Larger opportunities also appear on the national Find a Tender service. 316 councils across England hold core membership, with Welsh authorities joining through the Welsh Local Government Association. A cross-party, politically led organisation, the Association advises councils on social care, housing and climate change.
UK local government drives £140bn in annual procurement, led by social protection (£66.6bn) and education (£57.1bn).
Over the past 5 years, most of Local Government Association's contract awards have been in health and social work, business services and research and development.
