About the buyer

University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust is an NHS trust with its own procurement team. Five hospitals across the East Midlands, including Royal Derby Hospital and Queen's Hospital Burton, sit under its purchasing remit. The trust hosts the East Midlands Pharmacy Collaborative for pharmacy procurement. Twelve NHS trusts across the region use that collaborative for their pharmacy contracts. Much of the trust's wider procurement flows through framework agreements and the Crown Commercial Service. NHS Supply Chain supplies many of its clinical consumables.

UK health spending has nearly quadrupled to £241.8bn in 2024/25, £20bn up on the year before. £140.6bn of that went to procurement, the biggest sector of UK public spending and the fastest-growing.

Over the past 5 years, most of University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust's contract awards have been in medical equipment and pharmaceuticals, repair and maintenance and software and information systems.
