Tender description

Dear Bus Operator, We are pleased to invite you to a collaborative engagement event to discuss how we can work together to deliver the best possible public transport services across the Cumberland area. Date: Thursday 27 March 2025 Venue: The Old Fire Station, Peter Street, Carlisle, CA3 8PQ Contact Old Fire Station Arrival: From 4.45pm Welcome and Introduction: 5.00pm Pie and Pea Supper: 5.30pm Discussion and Collaboration Session: 6.00pm – 7.30pm As you may know, Cumberland Council has secured £5 million in funding from the Department for Transport to drive significant improvements to local bus services. Following our recent public consultation, we have a clearer picture of the services our residents would like to see. Now, we want to work in partnership with you – our valued bus operators – to explore how we can bring these plans to life. This session will provide an opportunity to share your insights, discuss challenges, and help shape the future of bus services in the area. Your input is vital to ensuring we create a network that works for both operators and passengers. To confirm your attendance, please RSVP by Friday 21 March by emailing sarah.hammond@cumberland.gov.uk. When replying, please let us know your pie preference – chicken, steak, or vegetarian. Or if you have any dietary or cultural requests. We look forward to working with you to improve bus services in Cumberland. Yours sincerely, Leanne Beverley Public Transport Manager Cumberland Council Keywords: transport, bus, public transport

About the buyer

Cumberland Council is a local authority buying goods, works and services for Cumbria, guided by its own Contract Procedure Rules. Tenders are advertised through the Find a Tender Service on GOV.UK. Framework agreements sit alongside open competitions among its procurement procedures. Every tender also weighs social value against council priorities. Contracts follow the Procurement Act 2023 and the Public Contracts Regulations 2015. A weekly business newsletter and supplier events keep suppliers informed too.

UK local government drives £140bn in annual procurement, led by social protection (£66.6bn) and education (£57.1bn).

Over the past 5 years, most of Cumberland Council's contract awards have been in construction work, education and training and architectural and engineering services.
