Tender description
Medway Council is seeking to appoint a contractor to make the necessary repairs to the greenkeepers yard at Deangate. Ultimately to bring the space back into use and make it safe for future use by the community and volunteers. The golf course was helped maintained by the Greenkeepers yard before it was closed in 2018, it it’s Medway’s aim with this funding to reopen the building for use. The contractor will need to provide costs for the refurbishment of the existing building based on the recommendations of the ABP Engineers structural report as part of this tender. Currently a conditional & asbestos survey are also being undertaken and so the recommendations from these reports will also need to be addressed in the works. Therefore, costs may need to be adapted upon receipt of these reports. The successful contractor will need to complete all the construction works detailed in the recommendations of the structural report within the budget allowance of £80,000 to bring the building back into use for its new purpose as a community and volunteer space. Keywords: Refurbishment, Minor Works, Greenkeepers Hut

About the buyer
Medway Council governs the Medway towns in Kent, and buys as a local authority with its own central procurement team. All contracting opportunities are advertised on the Kent Business Portal, where suppliers can search live tenders and set up email alerts. Suppliers must also register on the Central Digital Platform, a requirement since the Procurement Act 2023 took effect. Dynamic purchasing systems cover recurring needs such as SEND transport, supported living and agency staff recruitment. Premarket engagement with suppliers shapes tender requirements before contracts go live. The council also publishes its full contracts register on the same portal.
UK local government drives £140bn in annual procurement, led by social protection (£66.6bn) and education (£57.1bn).
Over the past 5 years, most of Medway Council's contract awards have been in construction work, architectural and engineering services and health and social work.
