About the buyer

Falkirk Council is a local authority covering the Falkirk area of Scotland. Contract opportunities are advertised through Public Contracts Scotland, the national procurement portal for Scottish public sector bodies. Lower-value, non-regulated procurements are requested as quotations through PCS's Quick Quotes function. The Corporate Procurement Unit runs free online clinics offering guidance to SMEs, local suppliers and Third Sector organisations. Place Services officers handle procurement guidance for works contracts separately. Falkirk Council also takes an active role in the Supplier Development Programme, the national scheme that helps Scottish businesses engage with public procurement.

UK local government drives £140bn in annual procurement, led by social protection (£66.6bn) and education (£57.1bn).

Over the past 5 years, most of Falkirk Council's contract awards have been in construction work, repair and maintenance and construction materials.
