Whole School Approach to Food

The School Meals Transformation Programme is working towards schools improving adherence to national and Southwark specific standards through implementing a school food action plan and policy through primary and secondary school visits, and School Food Management Training offered to primary schools. The School Food Management Training supports primary school School Business Managers to develop skills in managing their school food procurement, and to develop a school food policy. Both SBM training cohorts are estimated to have completed the course and developed a school food policy by March 2025. Southwark Council currently performs school visits for quality monitoring. After each visit, a school receives an informal report with key recommendations that require action and follow up. Southwark Council is seeking a delivery partner to design and deliver a package of support to add capacity to schools to help nursery, primary and secondary school settings develop their policy and deliver an action plan during financial years 2024/25, and 2025/26, taking a whole school food approach.
