About the buyer

Thurrock Council buys as a local authority, with a dedicated procurement team managing purchasing and supplier relationships. Suppliers trade through the Oracle Fusion Supplier Portal, used for purchase orders, invoices and profile management. Larger contracts go to formal competitive tender, advertised through the government's Find a Tender service. Contracts Finder lists smaller opportunities for suppliers to browse or set alerts against. The council keeps no approved supplier lists, opening most work to open competition. Thurrock Council is also a member of the Procurement Agency for Essex, sharing opportunities with councils across the county.

UK local government drives £140bn in annual procurement, led by social protection (£66.6bn) and education (£57.1bn).

Over the past 5 years, most of Thurrock Council's contract awards have been in health and social work, construction work and business services.
