Tender description
This is a Request for Information (RFI) to inform the proposed pilot for "Pancreatic Cancer Primary Care Case-finding Data Searches" where we are requesting future potential suppliers to complete the RFI document which can be found in the Documents section on Atamis. The purpose of this RFI is to gauge market interest and gain feedback via the RFI response form. Please note that this is not a procurement exercise but a means of collecting information from the market to help us inform the Statement of Requirements/Specification for any future procurement opportunity. The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) recommends (NG12) urgent abdominal imaging for people who are aged 60 and over with new-onset diabetes (NOD) and weight loss. Evidence suggests currently only 3.5% of people who meet these criteria are being referred for an ultrasound or CT scan within 30 days. There is an intention to run a pilot with the aim to improve the implementation of NG12 by searching patient GP records to identify people aged 60 and over with new-onset diabetes (NOD) and weight loss and invite them for a series of tests to check for early signs of pancreatic cancer. Case finding is expected to lead to a 2.6% - 4.7% impact on pancreatic cancer staging. If this pilot is effective, it could have a significant impact on diagnosis and thus survivability of pancreatic cancer in the future. If diagnosed early (stages 1-2) patients have a greater chance or receiving curative treatment. To participate in the Request for Information and access the RFI document please go to https://health-family.force.com/s/Welcome

About the buyer
NHS England runs the NHS in England, and buys as a central healthcare organisation with its own team of procurement professionals. Every tender is advertised on Atamis, the NHS's single eCommercial system, and larger contracts appear on Find a Tender. Much of this procurement flows through framework agreements and the Crown Commercial Service. Clinical services are commissioned directly or through the Provider Selection Regime. Seven regional teams support the commissioning of healthcare services across the country. The central commercial function that develops procurement strategy for the whole NHS sits here.
UK health spending has nearly quadrupled to £241.8bn in 2024/25, £20bn up on the year before. £140.6bn of that went to procurement, the biggest sector of UK public spending and the fastest-growing.
Over the past 5 years, most of NHS England's contract awards have been in education and training, health and social work, and IT services.
