About the buyer

Met Office buys as a central government agency, delivering weather and climate services as an executive agency and trading fund of the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology. Collaborative government agreements route much of its buying through the Crown Commercial Service, alongside the ESPO and YPO frameworks. Standard contracts are awarded through desktop competitions or full tender exercises, usually inviting four or more suppliers to bid. The commercial team runs this process, following Cabinet Office best practice.
