Tender description
We are engaging with the supply chain about the long term ecological works delivery strategy for the HS2 Area North project. The Balfour Beatty VINCI (BBV) Joint Venture was awarded the Main Works Construction Contract for the Northern section of HS2 Phase 1 in 2019. This contract is expected to run through to 2030 and encompasses all the main civil engineering and environmental works required to deliver the operational railway. Both HS2 and BBV have an aspiration for no net loss of biodiversity making ecology core to delivery of the project. BBV delivers ecological works via a team of in-house ecologists supported by consultants and seconded staff from the supply chain. It is BBV's intention to re-engage with the supply chain to ensure the right resources are available to support BBV's ambitious 2025-2030 ecology programme. BBV intends to replace existing secondment agreements with new Professional Services Contracts with a pool of specialist service providers including SME's. Professional Services Contracts will offer the flexibility for ecology secondments as well as ad-hoc professional services deliverables. Additional information: Please ensure you have submitted the attached capabilities matrix is completed and returned to matthew.cemm@balbourbeattyvinci.com on or before the closing date of this advertisement (30/08/24).

About the buyer
HS2 Ltd is a non-departmental public body sponsored by the Department for Transport, and buys as a central government agency building Britain's high-speed railway between London and Birmingham. Contracts above the public procurement threshold are advertised on Find a Tender, and smaller awards appear on Contracts Finder. Framework agreements cover major packages, such as the lifts and escalators for Phase One stations. Four tier-one joint-venture contractors, including EKFB and Align JV, deliver the main civils work. Those contractors procure their own tier-two subcontractors, who source further down the chain. Live subcontract opportunities are advertised through the CompeteFor portal.
Procurement spend from central entities makes up 66% of overall UK public spend.
Over the past 5 years, most of HS2's contract awards have been in construction work, metals and mining products and transport equipment.
