Tender description
Older People's Mental Health Nursing Homes in Somerset have been designed and commissioned to provide holistic and individualised therapeutic interventions which meet the holistic health, nursing, and social care needs of each person being supported. They are also expected to provide good quality and appropriate accommodation for residents living with a dementia-related illness or identified cognitive impairment, as well as sustained needs for round the clock nursing care. This requires a commitment to person-centred care, specialised training approaches, and embracing technological advancements to empower both residents and staff. Providers of these services must adhere to the standards set forth by regulatory bodies and ensure compliance with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) standards for regulated care. We are commissioning 6 beds in Glastonbury, 32 beds in Bridgwater, 10 beds in Yeovil, 3 beds in Chard/Ilminster/Crewkerne, 27 beds in Wellington and 10 beds in Taunton. About the buyer
Somerset Council is a unitary local authority that buys through its own central procurement team. Suppliers register free on the Proactis Supplier Network, a shared e-procurement portal used across the South West. Above certain value thresholds set by the Procurement Act 2023, tenders also appear on Contracts Finder and Find a Tender. Larger contracts go to formal tender through the council's e-tendering system. Quotes are invited from multiple suppliers for lower-value goods, works and services. Commissioning favours suppliers who can show social value, environmental impact and local supply chain benefits.
UK local government drives £140bn in annual procurement, led by social protection (£66.6bn) and education (£57.1bn).
Over the past 5 years, most of Somerset Council's contract awards have been in construction work, education and training and health and social work.
