About the buyer
Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council is a local authority that buys through STAR Procurement, a shared service run jointly with Rochdale, Tameside and Trafford councils. Suppliers register for open tenders on The Chest, the North West's public sector e-procurement portal. STAR Procurement organises contracts across three categories, covering people, place and professional services. A valid purchase order number must accompany every invoice before payment is made. Meet the Buyer events introduce Stockport-based tradespeople and consultants to upcoming projects. Highways works, consultancy services and property contracts are typically procured through STAR frameworks.
UK local government drives £140bn in annual procurement, led by social protection (£66.6bn) and education (£57.1bn).
Over the past 5 years, most of Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council's contract awards have been in architectural and engineering services, construction work and IT services.
