About the buyer

Bolton Council is a Greater Manchester local authority procuring goods, works and services for the borough. Contract opportunities are advertised through The Chest, the North West's shared local authority procurement portal, where suppliers register free to receive alerts. Some notices also route through the ProContract e-tendering system. Larger contracts above the regulated thresholds are published on Find a Tender rather than the regional portal. A social value toolkit sets out expectations for bidders alongside the council's own ethical procurement policy. The corporate procurement team, based at Bolton Town Hall, handles supplier enquiries and contract queries.

UK local government drives £140bn in annual procurement, led by social protection (£66.6bn) and education (£57.1bn).

Over the past 5 years, most of Bolton Council's contract awards have been in health and social work, business services and repair and maintenance.
