About the buyer
Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council is a local authority responsible for procurement across the county borough of Merthyr Tydfil in South Wales. Most contracts are advertised through Sell2Wales, the national procurement portal used across Welsh public bodies. Tendering runs through eTenderWales, the council's Bravo-based e-sourcing system for submitting bids. Prospective suppliers register on that system before they can bid for advertised work. A lower-value spend threshold gives smaller local suppliers a direct route into council contracts. More than 2,000 active suppliers already support council contracts, from stationery to major construction works.
UK local government drives £140bn in annual procurement, led by social protection (£66.6bn) and education (£57.1bn).
Over the past 5 years, most of Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council's contract awards have been in transport services, construction work and health and social work.
