About the buyer
Greater Manchester Police is the territorial force for Greater Manchester's ten boroughs, covering Bolton, Bury, Manchester, Oldham, Rochdale, Salford, Stockport, Tameside, Trafford and Wigan, and buys as a blue light body. New tenders are advertised through the Bluelight eTendering portal. Contracts also appear on the Chest, the North West's shared procurement portal used by local authorities across the region. Contractual standing orders set the rules for open and accountable purchasing. The Mayor of Greater Manchester also serves as police and crime commissioner for the force. A Police, Fire and Crime Panel scrutinises how the mayor exercises these powers.
The top 10 blue light buyers spent a collective £2.2bn between FY2021 and FY2025.
Over the past 5 years, most of Greater Manchester Police's contract awards have been in software and information systems, IT services and office and computing equipment.
