About the buyer
North Yorkshire Council is a unitary local authority formed in April 2023, replacing the former county council and seven district and borough councils. Tendering opportunities are advertised on YORtender, the council's electronic procurement platform. Opportunities above the national procurement thresholds are also published on the Find a Tender Service. Some contracts run through framework agreements with multiple suppliers, others go to a single provider. Individual purchases are led by service managers and commissioners in each service area. Contracts above a set value are also listed in a public register on the council's Data North Yorkshire website.
UK local government drives £140bn in annual procurement, led by social protection (£66.6bn) and education (£57.1bn).
Over the past 5 years, most of North Yorkshire Council's contract awards have been in transport services, construction work and IT services.
