About the buyer
Chesterfield Borough Council is a local authority in Derbyshire, and runs its own e-procurement portal for suppliers. Businesses register free on the Proactis portal to view and bid for current tender opportunities. Since February 2025, suppliers have also had to register on Find a Tender, the government's Central Digital Platform, under the Procurement Act 2023. Lower-value contracts are still advertised separately on Contracts Finder. A public contracts register on the council's website lists every contract it has previously awarded. Local suppliers are encouraged to bid for building, IT, facilities and waste management contracts, though no preferred list exists.
UK local government drives £140bn in annual procurement, led by social protection (£66.6bn) and education (£57.1bn).
Over the past 5 years, most of Chesterfield Borough Council's contract awards have been in construction work, software and information systems and business services.
