Tender description
Background The Green Tunnels are cut and cover tunnels, which consist, in brief, in excavating a trench, constructing the tunnel in it, and backfilling it afterwards, to restore the ground surface to its original state. By integrating the railway into the existing landscape, this tunnelling method contributes in mitigating potential impacts that it could have, particularly in rural areas, such as visual pollution and wildlife fragmentation. For this reason, the Green Tunnels have been proposed as a sustainable solution for some sections of the HS2 route. Requirement EKFB are looking for a competent supplier to carry out a suitable and sufficient Fire Risk Assessment of the tunnels to identify the risks and manage them appropriately. The scope of works includes, but is not limited to: assessing fire sources, confirming the minimum requirements and the specific requirements for the case, defining the risk level, proposing actions to manage these safely and effectively, commenting on the spread of fire in the tunnel and its surroundings, developing fire strategies, incident management plans, emergency plans, and any other applicable documentation. Amount of Tunnels & Location • Chipping Warden x 1 • Greatworth x 1 • Wendover x 1 Timeline Chipping Warden - 26/07/2021 Greatworth - 25/10/2021 Wendover - 24/01/2022 The Fire Risk Assessment is to be revised and updated regularly (according to the requirements of the case) and as the activities and progress dictates. About the buyer
HS2 Ltd is a non-departmental public body sponsored by the Department for Transport, and buys as a central government agency building Britain's high-speed railway between London and Birmingham. Contracts above the public procurement threshold are advertised on Find a Tender, and smaller awards appear on Contracts Finder. Framework agreements cover major packages, such as the lifts and escalators for Phase One stations. Four tier-one joint-venture contractors, including EKFB and Align JV, deliver the main civils work. Those contractors procure their own tier-two subcontractors, who source further down the chain. Live subcontract opportunities are advertised through the CompeteFor portal.
Procurement spend from central entities makes up 66% of overall UK public spend.
Over the past 5 years, most of HS2's contract awards have been in construction work, metals and mining products and transport equipment.
