Tender description
Chesterfield Borough Council (CBC) is seeking to contract an experienced architect led multi-disciplinary team to progress the technical design of the refurbishment of the Stephenson Memorial Hall, Corporation Street, Chesterfield. The Lead designer and consultants will be required to take the existing Stage 3 package of design work for the Stephenson Memorial Hall project from RIBA Work Stage 4 to RIBA Work Stage 6. Chesterfield Borough Council owns and manages the Stephenson Memorial Hall. One part of the building is currently used as the Pomegranate Theatre and the other part as Chesterfield Museum. The re-design of the building to RIBA Stage 3 combines the museum and theatre uses to enable the building to be seen as an integrated cultural venue in the town and extend the life of an important heritage asset. About the buyer
Chesterfield Borough Council is a local authority in Derbyshire, and runs its own e-procurement portal for suppliers. Businesses register free on the Proactis portal to view and bid for current tender opportunities. Since February 2025, suppliers have also had to register on Find a Tender, the government's Central Digital Platform, under the Procurement Act 2023. Lower-value contracts are still advertised separately on Contracts Finder. A public contracts register on the council's website lists every contract it has previously awarded. Local suppliers are encouraged to bid for building, IT, facilities and waste management contracts, though no preferred list exists.
UK local government drives £140bn in annual procurement, led by social protection (£66.6bn) and education (£57.1bn).
Over the past 5 years, most of Chesterfield Borough Council's contract awards have been in construction work, software and information systems and business services.
