About the buyer
Reading Borough Council is a local authority for the town of Reading, and suppliers register free on its In-tend portal to view and bid for opportunities. Certain contracts advertised under the Procurement Act 2023 also require a free Find a Tender account. Smaller-value opportunities appear on Contracts Finder alongside the council's own listings. Much of this procurement runs through frameworks or dynamic markets. Suppliers can become pre-approved to compete as opportunities arise. Bids are evaluated on quality and cost, with feedback offered to unsuccessful suppliers. Tender and contract details are published quarterly under the local government transparency code.
UK local government drives £140bn in annual procurement, led by social protection (£66.6bn) and education (£57.1bn).
Over the past 5 years, most of Reading Borough Council's contract awards have been in construction work, health and social work and repair and maintenance.
