About the buyer
Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council is a local authority, buying goods, works and services for its own operations and residents. Every tender is advertised on Open, the e-procurement platform that replaced the NEPO Portal. Contract opportunities also appear on the council's own website. The council is a member of NEPO, the North East Procurement Organisation, a regional buying consortium. Suppliers register on Open and filter by authority to find live opportunities. A dedicated Corporate Procurement Team runs tendering and supports both council officers and external suppliers throughout the process.
UK local government drives £140bn in annual procurement, led by social protection (£66.6bn) and education (£57.1bn).
Over the past 5 years, most of Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council's contract awards have been in construction work, health and social work and transport equipment.
