Tender description

The University of Southampton has contracted for the provision of a fully hosted (Software as a Service (SAAS)) Student Placement Management System. In order to review a full range of available options and identify the most suitable solution(s) for the University, in terms of both meeting the University’s specification requirements and obtaining best value for money, this procurement was divided into 3 lots: Lot 1: Allocated Placements; Lot 2: Apply Placements; Lot 3: Allocated and Apply Placements. Lot 1: Allocated Placements. “Allocated” placements are those that are mandatory to the student’s programme, and the University “allocates” or chooses where the students undertake their placement(s). Lot 2: Apply Placements. “Apply” placements are those that the student chooses to apply for (may be through the University, or independently). Lot 3: Allocated and Apply placements. Combined lot covering the full range of University placement activity.

About the buyer

University of Southampton is a higher education institution whose procurement team runs tenders and quotations under its own financial regulations. Tenders are advertised through In-Tend, the university's e-tendering system. Many contracts are awarded through framework agreements managed by the Southern Universities Procurement Consortium. Larger opportunities may also appear on Contracts Finder and Find a Tender. Purchasing teams raise orders and requisitions for faculties and professional service groups. Procurement thresholds set the route to market, ranging from a single quotation to a formal tender. Contractors must hold appropriate insurance before work begins.

Education procurement reached £47.4bn in 2024/25, the fourth-largest public sector budget.

Over the past 5 years, most of University of Southampton's contract awards have been in software and information systems, office and computing equipment and architectural and engineering services.
