About the buyer

Portsmouth City Council is a local authority that runs a dedicated procurement service for the city of Portsmouth. All tender opportunities for the council are managed through InTend, its e-sourcing system. Suppliers register their organisation on InTend and select the business categories that match their competencies. Larger contracts go through a competitive tender process, while smaller quotation exercises run through the same portal. Some opportunities are also advertised through the Central Buying Consortium, a shared purchasing arrangement. Live opportunities beyond InTend also appear on the council's own contract register and on GOV.UK Contracts Finder.

UK local government drives £140bn in annual procurement, led by social protection (£66.6bn) and education (£57.1bn).

Over the past 5 years, most of Portsmouth City Council's contract awards have been in architectural and engineering services, construction work and business services.
