Description
Summary of Requirements In 2009 the NDC developed a new website. As part of this project we created a repository for Irish drugs and alcohol research literature. The repository was built using Eprints open source repository software, which is used by a number of large academic institutions throughout the world to manage their own research repositories. The NDC now needs to upgrade the software supporting this platform. The work outlined in the specification of requirements must be completed by Friday 13 December 2013 Specification of requirements for software development The NDC research repository and the www.drugsandalcohol.ie website are built on an EPRINTS core. EPRINTS is a repository application used in research institutions and universities around the world. The website uses a cross authentication module, implemented in PHP, which allows a great deal more flexibility in loading content and modifying web pages than in a normal EPRINTS repository. The NDC has used this authentication module extensively to provide access to restricted documents and to manage permissions around use of data resources. The NDC repository and website is built on a system using AJAX-Javascript Perl / PHP / MySQL. The EPRINTS version currently used by the NDC is EPRINTS-3.1.2.1. Our last upgrade to this platform was performed in May 2009. Since then the code base and core functionality of EPRINTS has improved significantly. There have been two major releases and up to 10 minor releases in each branch.
