About the buyer
Newry Mourne and Down District Council is a Northern Ireland local authority procuring goods, services and works across its district. Tenders are advertised through the council's MultiQuote portal rather than a single UK-wide site. Suppliers must register on MultiQuote before they can bid on any live competition. Above-threshold contracts now fall under the Procurement Act 2023, in force in Northern Ireland since February 2025. Some recurring works, including civil engineering, run through multi-year framework agreements. Recent competitions have covered highway improvements, community regeneration and minor works contracts.
UK local government drives £140bn in annual procurement, led by social protection (£66.6bn) and education (£57.1bn).
Over the past 5 years, most of Newry Mourne and Down District Council's contract awards have been in recreation, culture and sport, education and training, and construction work.
