About the buyer
South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority brings together Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield under an elected mayor, and buys as a local authority. Suppliers register free on the ProContract system, where the group lists as Sheffield City Region Mayoral Combined Authority. Contracts above a set value are advertised on Contracts Finder, with larger ones on Find a Tender. Public transport commissioning includes tram fleet and bus service contracts. Growth, infrastructure and skills programmes bring further tenders through the same portal. The Authority's Strategic Economic Plan sets transport and investment priorities through to 2040.
UK local government drives £140bn in annual procurement, led by social protection (£66.6bn) and education (£57.1bn).
Over the past 5 years, most of the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority's contract awards have been in software and information systems, IT services and transport equipment.
