Tender description
This invitation is open to all care providers of residential and nursing including those who have worked with SCC previously, as well as those who have not. The purpose of these workshops is to discuss new ideas, innovate, and work collaboratively to reach a better understanding of how we can support the people of Suffolk to live their best and healthiest lives. The outcome from these sessions, along with outputs from resident engagement, will help SCC to develop a new approach for commissioning care home placements for older adult’s care in Suffolk that reflects the views of providers, residents, and other key stakeholders. This initial session is intended to assist the Council in understanding the views of service providers on how services could be best commissioned and provided. The aim is to establish a more practical means for the council (and potentially ICB partners) to administer day to day purchasing of individuals residential and nursing care beds to ensure procurement processes are legally compliant and achieving improved value for money while ensuring the council can access the right care and support provision for residents as required. About the buyer
Suffolk County Council is a local authority procuring under the Procurement Act 2023. Suppliers find and bid for its opportunities through Suffolk Sourcing, a portal it has shared with Suffolk's district and borough councils since 2010. Many contracts are let through frameworks, pre-approved supplier lists awarded competitively or, where permitted, by direct award. Dynamic purchasing systems cover Adult and Community Learning and Passenger Transport Services, open to new suppliers at any time. From April 2026, suppliers awarded below-threshold contracts must register on the Central Digital Platform. Suppliers are also expected to add value to the local economy, the Suffolk pound.
UK local government drives £140bn in annual procurement, led by social protection (£66.6bn) and education (£57.1bn).
Over the past 5 years, most of Suffolk County Council's contract awards have been in transport services, education and training and health and social work.
