About the buyer

Iarnród Eireann-Irish Rail operates Ireland's passenger and freight rail network as a subsidiary of CIÉ, with its own procurement department. Tenders are advertised on eTenders, the Irish government's official tendering platform. Procurement covers the goods, services and works needed to keep the network running safely. A Chief Civil Engineer oversees infrastructure works such as track, bridges and stations. Suppliers sign up to standard terms and conditions and a code of conduct set by the company. A published Sustainable Procurement Strategy, developed with the Supply Chain Sustainability School, shapes purchasing decisions across the business.

€29.5bn was the estimated value of contracts awarded across the Irish public sector in 2025.

Over the past 5 years, most of Iarnród Eireann-Irish Rail's contract awards have been in architectural and engineering services, transport equipment and construction work.
