Skew Bridge, Grimsargh - Bridge Widening Works

"Grimsargh Skew Bridge is a single span reinforced concrete structure which was previously strengthened in 2001. Currently, the width of the main bridge restricts traffic to a single lane width, restricting flow of vehicles. There are steel pedestrian footbridges on both sides (east & west) of the bridge. The eastern footbridge is relatively new and will be retained. A scheme has been developed to widen the structure to enable two-way traffic for vehicles and therefore improve traffic flows. The works substantially consist of the demolition of the western footbridge, the widening of the existing main bridge and the installation of a signalised pedestrian crossing to the north of the bridge, adjacent to the nearby primary school. The design of both the temporary and permanent works required for the bridge widening is proposed to be designed by the contractor to match the fixed highways alignment designed by LCC.
