About the buyer

Aberdeenshire Council is a local authority covering the North East of Scotland, running procurement through its own commercial team. Tenders are advertised on Public Contracts Scotland, the Scottish Government's national tender portal. Suppliers register on that portal to view opportunities and submit bids. Works contracts draw on Constructionline's approved contractor lists rather than open advertisement. Goods and services procurement instead favours regular open competition. A dedicated Commissioning Team inside Housing and Social Work buys community care and support services. Procurement strategy and annual reporting are developed jointly with Aberdeen City Council and Highland Council.

UK local government drives £140bn in annual procurement, led by social protection (£66.6bn) and education (£57.1bn).

Over the past 5 years, most of Aberdeenshire Council's contract awards have been in construction work, software and information systems and construction materials.
