About the buyer
Shropshire Council is the local authority responsible for Shropshire, and buys as a local government organisation through its own dedicated procurement team. Smaller value opportunities are advertised through Contracts Finder, where supplier registration is completely free. Larger contracts are instead advertised on Find a Tender, the government's central portal for higher value public sector opportunities. Every current tendering opportunity is also published directly on the council's own website. A published commissioning and procurement strategy sets out how the council approaches buying. Social value is built into every contract the council awards.
UK local government drives £140bn in annual procurement, led by social protection (£66.6bn) and education (£57.1bn).
Over the past 5 years, most of Shropshire Council's contract awards have been in health and social work, food and drink and construction work.
