Tender description
The Newcastle Upon Tyne NHS Foundation Trust has awarded a contract for the Provision of a Double Blind Pragmatic Randomised Controlled Trial: Bronchiectasis Optimising Azithromycin prevention Treatment to reduce exacerbations (BOAT) via open procedure to the supplier Eramol for 24 months with the option to extend for a further 12 months. Lot 1: The Trust undertakes clinical trials within the main pharmacy departments with the responsibility for coordinating the dispensing process for the numerous commercial and non-commercial clinical trials conducted throughout the Newcastle Hospitals. The Pharmacy departing is currently reviewing the uncertainty about how best to use long-term antibiotics in people with Bronchiectasis to reduce the risk of future exacerbations.<br/>Although guidelines are consistent in recommending azithromycin as the prophylactic antibiotic of choice, there are distinct differences between them, notably in eligibility criteria for azithromycin chemoprophylaxis, dose, and duration of treatment.
