Tender description
The I-Form Centre at UCD, carries out research on the printing of polymers and composites. The Centre has a particular focus on the use of in-situ monitoring to facilitate enhanced print process control. The requested high temperature polymer / composite 3D printer will allow the group to compete with leading research groups in 3D printing of high-performance thermoplastic polymers such as PEEK, PEKK, etc., and their fiber reinforced composites for use in industry sectors such as medical device and aerospace manufacture. With the capabilities of the 3D Printer, the group will have the capability to investigate the printing behaviour and optimise the processing parameters for printed parts.

About the buyer
University College Dublin is a higher education institution, and its Procurement and Purchasing Function runs tendering for the whole university. Budget holders across the university draft specifications and sit on evaluation teams before any tender goes out. The Office of Government Procurement and the Education Procurement Service sometimes run tenders on UCD's behalf. Above the EU threshold, tenders run as a full EU-wide procedure rather than a national one.
Over the past 5 years, most of UCD's contract awards have been in laboratory and precision equipment, software and information systems and office and computing equipment.
